Privacy Policy

Who we are
This website is operated by Finn Shimmin, trading as FS Tuition, based in the Isle of Man. Our website address is: https://finnseconomics.co.uk. For any privacy queries, contact us at [email protected].

What personal data we collect

Enquiries and contact forms
When you submit an enquiry via our contact or booking forms, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and any details you provide about tutoring needs (subject, exam board, current grade level).

Bookings and payments
When you book a lesson, we collect your name, email, phone number, and lesson preferences via our booking system. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details. Stripe’s privacy policy is available at https://stripe.com/gb/privacy.

Students under 18
Many of our clients are under 18. Where a student is a minor, we require a parent or guardian to make the initial enquiry and booking, and to be the primary point of contact for account and payment matters.

Comments (if enabled)
If you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam. An anonymized hash of your email address may be shared with Gravatar to check if you use their service; see https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once approved, your comment and profile picture are publicly visible.

Cookies

  • Comment cookies (name, email, website) last 1 year, used to save your details for future comments.
  • Login cookies last 2 days (2 weeks with “Remember Me”); screen options cookies last 1 year.
  • A temporary cookie checks whether your browser accepts cookies when you visit the login page.
  • [If using Google Analytics or similar, add: We use analytics cookies to understand site usage — see below.]

Media
If you upload images to the site, avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as this can be extracted by visitors.

Embedded content
Pages may include embedded content (videos, articles, etc.) from other websites. This content behaves as if you visited the other site directly, and may collect data, set cookies, or track your interaction, including if you’re logged into that third-party site.

Why we process your data
We process your data to: respond to enquiries, deliver tutoring services you’ve booked, process payments, and (with consent) send occasional updates about our services. Our legal basis is performance of a contract (for bookings) and consent (for marketing communications).

Who we share your data with

  • Stripe (payment processing)
  • SureForms (contact form; enquiries are stored on our website)
  • Cloudflare (security and content delivery)
  • SiteGround (website hosting)
  • Fastmail (email)
  • If you request a password reset, your IP address is included in the reset email.

These providers may process data outside the UK/EEA (e.g. in the US); where this happens, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) are in place.

How long we retain your data

  • Enquiry and booking data is retained for as long as necessary to deliver our services and meet legal/accounting obligations (typically up to 6 years for financial records).
  • Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, so follow-up comments can be recognized automatically.
  • Registered user data (if applicable) is retained until the account is deleted.

Your rights
You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccuracies, request erasure, or object to processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at [insert contact email]. This doesn’t affect data we’re legally required to retain.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — for the Isle of Man, this is the Information Commissioner (https://www.inforights.im); UK-based visitors may also contact the ICO (https://ico.org.uk).

Where your data is sent
Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Payment data is sent securely to Stripe for processing.

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this page.
